6.3 A Present for Steve

Reading and vocabulary

Steve is very happy. His team won an important baseball game. They are the best school team in Chicago. His parents want to reward him and are taking him to a shopping mall to buy him a present.
Steve: Mom, look at this red shirt. It is so beautiful. Can I try it on?
Steve's mother: It's too small for you. It won't look good. Look at that blue shirt over there. Do you like it?
Steve: But I already have a blue shirt. The shirt I am wearing is the same as that one.
Steve's father: And how about these sneakers? Do you like them?
Steve: They look nice, but they are expensive. They cost 160 dollars.

Steve's father: You are a good boy. And what do you think about those sneakers in the corner? They are inexpensive and they look nice.
Steve: You are right, dad. They will look cool with the blue shirt.
Steve's father: OK, let's get them. Will you wear them tomorrow? You will have another game
tomorrow.
Steve: No, dad, I won't. I will wear the old sneakers. That game is unimportant. I mean, it's not a competition, it's just a friendly game. Steve's dad: Don't worry. You won't ruin them because you are always careful. Let's get those sneakers, then. You are the best player and you deserve them.
Steve's mom: Yes. And you will look good in them.
